The list of the reasons why you should keep your logo unique goes on and on, but if you’re still considering using a cheap logo template, we’ll list just a few major reasons why you’ll definitely need to reconsider. First, you’re a part of a creative industry, so you need each aspect of your business to showcase that creativity – especially your logo. Photography industry is becoming an increasingly saturated one, so you need a logo that stands out, not a logo that looks just like most other logos out there.
If that’s not enough to get you to consider custom design for your logo, you’ll need to know a thing or two about the cheap logo templates themselves before being able to make an informed decision. These templates tend to be developed by amateurs, or complete amateurs trying to earn a buck on the side, and as a result, they have all the telltale signs of cheap design. However, even if you do stumble upon a good template (Not all are bad, after all!), chances are it’s already being used by other photographers, some even in your area, which will definitely affect your chances of standing out.

Whenever we design a logo, we start by coming up with a few pages of sketches. We do this because no longer how many logos you design, the first few ideas are always the most generic. A camera lens in a photography logo? Groundbreaking! By coming up with a few pages of sketches, you’ll have a wide selection to choose from, and you’ll be able to choose one that’s not only unique, but also appropriate for your brand.
We do all our sketches in black first, as it allows greater versatility down the road. In fact, we leave adding the color for the end of the project, and we do it only once we’re 100% satisfied with the logo. Remember, the logo will be used in many different ways and various platforms – some of which will have serious restrictions. For example, if you fax something to a potential client, the logo will come out in one color on the other end. If you rely on color to convey a message, you need to find a way to communicate the same message even when the color is removed.
Readable | Modern Photography Logo Ideas
There are businesses using only a graphic symbol to represent them – think Twitter, or Starbucks. Then, there are logos that use only stylized name of the business to represent it, and while each type had its own set of benefits and drawbacks, you’ll want to make sure to include the name of your photography business in your logo. Even Twitter used their name until recently – it was only after they gained enough recognition (And invested endless amounts of time and money in marketing!) that they decided to drop the name.
We’re pretty sure you don’t have the marketing budget of Twitter (Yet, anyway!), so you’ll definitely want to include the name of your business until you build enough recognition. Until then, you’ll also need to make sure the font you use for your logo is readable. Remember, we all have that one special hand-written or script font we adore, but if it’s difficult to read, it doesn’t belong in your logo. At the end of the day, the last thing you want is to have your potential clients sitting there and trying to decipher the name of your business.

One of the most important characteristics of any logo is durability – while staying on top of the latest trends is important, it’s a much better idea to come up with a design that’s appropriate for your brand than to come up with an overly trendy logo. Remember, trends in logo design, much like the trends in fashion, come and go, and a logo that feels trendy today may feel outdated and off-putting sooner than you think – and your goal is a logo that will last for as long as you’re in business.
